2. Composite waste for recycling

The world market volume for composites is around 7.6 million tonnes/year, of which 65-70% are thermosets (2005 figures). Europe's share is around 24%, or 1.8 million tonnes/year. The application sectors concerned [3] are :

  • automotive and transport (26% by volume);

  • construction and civil engineering (30%) ;

  • electrical and electronic equipment (14%);

  • sports, leisure and nautical construction (16%);

  • aeronautics accounted for just 3% by volume (but 18% by value).

France accounts for around 300,000 tonnes/year. On this basis, we can estimate that the automotive industry consumes 108,000 tonnes/year, electrical and electronic equipment 45,000 tonnes/year, and sports, leisure and...
