2. Materials used in masks

2.1 The role of polymers

Certain polymers are generally used for mask fibers, such as polypropylene, polyethylene, polyesters, polyamides, polycarbonates and polyphenylene oxide. Certain fluorinated polymers are also used, such as tri-fluoro-chloro-ethylene. Hydrophobic, non-absorbent thermoplastic polymers with a slippery feel are more suitable for application . Polypropylene fiber is used because of its non-absorbent properties for basic medical masks, and it does not absorb moisture
