1. Methodology: measurement systems

Several measurement systems (described in the following paragraphs) were used in combination to quantify and analyze the kinematic and kinetic parameters characterizing propulsion. Synchronization was achieved by connecting the various measuring devices to the optoelectronic system.

1.1 Motion capture systems for wheelchair propulsion

Since the human body is extremely complex, a simplification is necessary to study its movement, and a model of the human body must be produced. Describing movement therefore involves defining a model to which the measured data can be applied.
