4. Inverse dynamics

To approach inverse dynamics, i.e. the determination of inter-segment forces balancing external mechanical actions, we need to add to the displacement data – processed previously – additional information concerning the field of forces applied to the moving body, as well as the masses, inertias and accelerations of the various body segments.

External mechanical actions are very often limited to the contact actions of the feet on the ground (posture analysis, walking or running), whose resulting torsor is measured by dynamometric platforms incorporating piezoelectric sensors or strain gauges.
