1. General principles of MRI

MRI is a technique based on the phenomenon of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) . The word "nuclear" has been dropped so as not to frighten hospital patients, even though it has nothing to do with radioactivity. It simply indicates that the technique is concerned with the magnetic properties of atomic nuclei. The aim of this short section is not to give a complete theory of MRI
