4. Mosaicing of endoscopic images

The aim of image mosaicing is to place all the information seen in the different images in a common frame of reference (that of the mosaic), in order to obtain a panoramic image (or map) without data redundancy and with a significantly larger field of view than that of individual images.

Image mosaicing is generally performed in several stages. The aim of the first mosaicking stage is to find the location of the pixels in each image of a video sequence within the mosaic frame. In the resulting map, there are usually alignment errors perceptible through texture discontinuities. An additional step is therefore aimed at slightly modifying the position of pixels in the map simultaneously, in order to correct alignment errors.
