3. Conclusion
Detectors are the X-ray radiology devices that have made the greatest progress since the 1980s. Both the practitioner and the patient have benefited: greater ease of use (no more developing, no more cassette to insert into a reader), instantly available image, excellent resolution and lower dose thanks to the introduction of the cesium iodide scintillator in flat detectors. Around 2000-2005, flat digital detectors were the preserve of top-of-the-range equipment, but are now being introduced in all types of equipment for diagnostic or interventional use. The latest technological advances focus on ease of use: portability, simple interfacing with the hospital IT network (PACS), with the generator (self-triggering), autonomy (integrated battery, WiFi link, image storage memory, coupling with a tablet computer).
