2. High-throughput sequencing applications

The field of application for these new sequencing methods is vast. Thanks to the ability of these machines to provide large quantities of sequences and to work on a large number of samples in parallel (see the notion of multiplexing), these tools complement, or even replace, different technologies, such as DNA chips, conventional Sanger sequencing or high-throughput quantitative PCR.
