4. Nanoparticle-based sonosensitizers

Most organic sonosensitizers are poorly soluble in water, often aggregate through hydrophobic interactions, induce cutaneous phototoxicities and are rapidly eliminated from the bloodstream, limiting their effective concentration in the pathological areas to be treated. To remedy these problems, nanometric systems have been designed [NM 4 010] . Two classes can be distinguished:

  • nanoparticles with intrinsic sonosensitizer properties;

  • systems encapsulating organic or inorganic sonosensitizers....
