5. Applications in the medical sector

A few applications illustrate the potential of lipid nanovectors as nanomedicines.

5.1 Topical and transdermal applications

As in the case of liposomes, the cosmetics industry has brought the use of lipid nanospheres, and more specifically SLNs, to the attention of the general public. Their compositions, based on biocompatible, biodegradable lipids and triglycerides derived from biocompatible oils or waxes, ensure that these objects are very well tolerated by the skin. Incorporated into or in the form of creams (oil in water) and in the absence of active ingredients, these lipid nanoparticles can firstly form an occlusive film on the surface of epidermis, thus limiting skin dehydration while ensuring lipid regeneration
