1. Raw materials for suppository manufacture

Rectal forms are among the oldest pharmaceutical forms, since their use dates back to antiquity, with mentions in the Old Testament and the texts of Hippocrates. The first rectal form was the enema, followed by the suppository, whose name comes from the Latin supponere, meaning "in place of" the enema. The first suppositories consisted of solid forms (horn, cooked honey, acorn, etc.) impregnated with medicinal preparations. However, it wasn't until the 19th century that the suppository form became a truly modern pharmaceutical form, using cocoa butter as a carrier and then introducing the active substance into the melted preparation before molding.
