2.1 Transfer characteristics in reactors
A number of heterogeneous reactions require contact and transfer between phases, many of which also involve heterogeneous catalytic reactions with a solid catalyst. Each transfer step constitutes an additional step to the reaction step, and can be characterized by a transfer resistance.
A simple way of representing the process is to consider the transfer and reaction stages as two steps in series. Each of the co-reactants is initially separated, one placed in the reactor beforehand, the other in a separate container, the contents of which are poured into the reactor at constant speed.
