Formulating a nail polish is relatively straightforward, since it mainly involves mixing at room temperature. The difficulty lies in dispersing the pigments and thixotropic agent. . As regulations oblige cosmetics manufacturers to disclose the composition of their products, the formulation process remains the final component specific to each manufacturer, the details of which (order of addition, agitation speeds and times) remain secret.
