10. Conclusion

Section 1 re-established the classification of combustion engines in the context of the new low-carbon paradigm.

Section 2 is dedicated to the decarbonization of mobility, drawing on the Paris Agreements signed in 2015 (COP21), which are the keystone of the new carbon-free energy context. The legislative and normative decisions taken by the European Commission during this decade are commented on at length, while the motor engineer's point of view takes over.

Section 3 classifies the fuels and energy carriers to be favored, distinguishing between carbon-neutral and low-carbon routes.

Section 4 is devoted to carbon-neutral fuels, with a detailed analysis of each of the thermochemical species concerned, looking at their current potential and drawbacks.
