biosourced chemistry
Chemistry in which fossil resources are replaced in whole or in part by resources derived from biomass, with a view to reducing dependence on fossil resources and limiting the environmental footprint. Green (or sustainable) chemistry is a type of chemistry that aims to be safer and more respectful of the environment, with a view to sustainable development. Biosourced chemistry is part of green chemistry, with the specificity that the raw material used must be derived from plant biomass (plants, wood, plant products, algae, etc.) and therefore renewable, rather than from fossil resources such as oil, coal or natural gas. Like plant-based chemicals, biofuels are also derived from organic plant matter after processing in a biorefinery.
