8. Conclusion

The vast majority of traction engines in the world are diesel-powered. Developments over many years have considerably improved engine efficiency. However, there is still a considerable amount of development work to be done in terms of gaseous emissions. The prospect of using natural gas instead of diesel offers such a prospect that we can foresee its widespread use for new equipment.
