This section describes a telecommunications system based on a network of satellites and the role of an active antenna on each satellite.

1.1 System overview

Typical telecommunications constellation programs deliver global connectivity through a network of interconnected, internally redundant satellites supported by a comprehensive ground segment. This ground segment comprises all necessary infrastructure to control the satellite fleet and interface end users with external communication networks, such as the Internet.
