4. Data usage in the maritime sector

The potential and current uses of maritime data are constantly expanding, and the various machine learning techniques presented in the previous paragraphs are finding numerous applications, particularly in strategic activities such as maritime transport, security and defense, environmental protection, knowledge of the subsoil and natural resources, and the development of energy production systems. Figure 22 gives a few examples of these applications according to the three main categories of learning techniques; different use cases are detailed in the following paragraphs.
