In addition to the direct impact of regulations on our business, there are three major reasons why we need to decarbonize maritime transport. Shipping is essential to the global economy, transporting over 90% of raw materials, merchandise and consumer goods. With major growth forecasts, it could account for as much as 5 to 10% of CO ₂ emissions tomorrow (compared with 3% today), if nothing is done to reduce its carbon footprint, and this at a time when the energy transition is a strategic challenge for France and the European Union.
