9. Reproductive toxicity
There are two types of action:
on male or female fertility;
on the foetus (teratogenesis).
9.1 Action on fertility
Chemicals and drugs can act directly on the CNS, particularly the hypothalamus and adenohypophysis, and disrupt libido (impotence), erection and ejaculation, or spermatogenesis by acting on the testicles (atrophy) or producing functional sperm abnormalities (figure 12 ), or acting on DNA and creating genetic and chromosomal aberrations.
