4.1 Going beyond the company's strategic culture
In the interests of doing the right thing, the quality manager may take the initiative in drawing up a strategic analysis of the organization, without being asked to do so by management, but believing it to be a requirement of the standards. As mentioned above, the analysis of the external and internal context can be limited to potential effects on the quality management system.
Zeal in this area, as in many others, can be counter-productive, and conducting a strategic analysis should not be confused with filling in a PESTEL or SWOT table! Analysis presentation tools don't make the analysis, just as clothes don't make the man!
