2. Definition of traceability

Traceability [4] is the proof that the measuring instrument, standard, analysis or test equipment used is calibrated against another piece of equipment, itself calibrated against a national or international standard.

The traceability of a measurement is ensured by the calibration of the equipment used and all records relating to this calibration.
