1. Identify operating procedures to be created, updated or archived

Operating procedures or work instructions describe a methodically ordered list of operations to be carried out in order to complete a specific set of tasks. Operating procedures may include descriptions of useful management rules for carrying out tasks or controls; they complement company procedures.

ISO 9001 refers to documented information, but does not require documentation to be broken down into procedures, operating modes or instructions, even though it is useful to use different levels of documentation to manage your QMS.

Here are the different levels of documentation that can be used.

  • Process sheets: describe the QMS processes;

  • procedures: these formalize a set of rules and actions to achieve a defined result. They define precisely who does what, how,...
