1. Evolution of organic analytical chemistry

1.1 General viewpoint

Like all developments, the evolution of organic analytical chemistry involves a gradual change of attitude. The general attitude is to build on previous achievements, to exploit them in new ways of reasoning and application, and to seek out new avenues of development, fanning out rather than moving in a single direction.

The need for closer links between the various branches of fundamental and applied organic chemistry is also part of the general attitude: at a time when organic analysis is becoming increasingly important, analysis automatically tends towards a very narrow specialization in its sphere of activity and in its methods.
