2. Experimental implementation

2.1 Mössbauer effect in transmission

For analysis at room temperature, Mössbauer transmission spectrometry of 57 Fe and 119 Sn can be implemented quickly. The components of a spectrometer are commercially available and can be assembled without major difficulty. First, the instrument needs to be calibrated with a known material, such as α-iron in the case of 57 Fe. After installation of the source and sample (absorber), data acquisition is automatic; the operator then intervenes to record the spectrum and analyze it on the computer.
