The high frequency of terahertz waves makes it possible to envisage the development of very high-speed telecommunication systems, particularly in the context of the development of 5G and future 6G technologies. However, the absence of high-performance waveguides and the high absorption of ambient air limit this field of application to very short-distance transmissions.
