5. Switched Ethernet technology. Fast Ethernet 100 Mbit/s
Fast Ethernet on copper media has never been specified on coaxial cable, and therefore only exists on shielded twisted pairs; it's called 100BaseT. This requires the use of Category 5 cables that support signal transmission up to 100 MHz.
5.1 Full-duplex links and collision disabling
By imposing a minimum packet size of 64 bytes (to enable collision detection in all circumstances), the Ethernet standard is very penalizing for interactive traffic, where information does not exceed a dozen characters per packet. If the station has less than 64 bytes to transmit, it must complete the data with zeros.
