ABSTRACT
The programming languages for automation systems are described in two complementary standards; namely the IEC 61131-3 standard and the IEC 61499 standard. The IEC 61499 standard is a method allowing for the distribution of IEC 61499 individual function blocks defined for an IEC 61499 program and distributed on multiple resources. IEC 61499 standard function blocks are available with the IEC 61499 library. Within an IEC 61499 project, programs can de designed in which IEC 61499 basic function blocks are inserted and IEC 61499 composite function blocks. The implementation of CEI 61499 in ISaGRAF is based upon the CEI 61499-1 and CEI 61499-2 standards.

INTRODUCTION

IEC 61499 is described in this article.
The IEC 61499 standard is a method for distributing individual IEC 61499 function blocks defined for an IEC 61499 program across multiple resources. Standard IEC 61499 function blocks are available with the IEC 61499 library.
In an IEC 61499 project, programs can be created in which IEC 61499 basic function blocks and IEC 61499 composite function blocks are inserted.
