4. Discussion and conclusion

This article gives a general introduction to the operation of a laser source and the interest that this technology represents for medical applications, from diagnostics to therapeutics. The use of lasers in medical applications began shortly after their invention (1960). In certain applications, lasers can perfectly replace the traditional scalpel or any other mechanical instrument used in the operating room. Its ability to resect biological tissue with micrometric precision, to reduce post-operative trauma, to lower the risk of infection, to enable the absence of stitches in certain cases, to reduce intra- and post-operative pain, etc., offers considerable advantages over conventional surgical instruments.
