Designing a robotic device from origami necessarily has an impact on the appropriate manufacturing techniques. This is because all or part of a robot has to be made using an initially flat shape, and then folded from a 2D to a 3D shape, before it can be used. For each of these two aspects, manufacturing in the plane and shaping, specific techniques to be favored have emerged.
