2. Practical implementation of fixed points

To illustrate the uncertainty components that will be developed later, the practical realization of three fixed points is described below. The BIPM website contains a wide range of documents dealing with the realization of fixed temperature points.

2.1 Triple point of water (0.01°C)

The phase diagram for water is shown in figure 3 . Point A corresponds to the triple point; all three phases coexist. Temperature and pressure are fixed and cannot take on other values. Point B corresponds to the melting point (from solid to liquid) or freezing point (from liquid to solid) at normal atmospheric pressure (101,325 Pa).
