1. Metrological requirements

1.1 Electromagnetic radiation and laser radiation

Light has a wave or corpuscular nature, depending on how we observe its interaction with matter. This is known as the wave-particle duality. The laser, Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation, is first and foremost a source of electromagnetic radiation, but with specific features that are explained below.

Wave-particle duality is characterized by the wave and corpuscular nature of light. The wave theory of light was proposed by Christian Huygens in the 17th century, then developed by Augustin Fresnel around 1820 and formalized by James Clerk Maxwell's laws of electromagnetism in 1864
