Traçabilité métrologique; metrological traceability

The property of a measurement result that it can be related to a reference through an unbroken, documented chain of calibrations, each of which contributes to the uncertainty of measurement.

Calibration

Operation which, under specified conditions, in a first step establishes a relationship between the values and associated measurement uncertainties provided by standards and the corresponding indications with associated uncertainties, then in a second step uses this information to establish a relationship for obtaining a measurement result from an indication.

Measurement uncertainty

Non-negative parameter characterizing the dispersion of values assigned to a measurand, based on the information used.
