6.1 General

6.1.1 Definition

An IS system is a set of electrical equipment defined in a system description document, in which the interconnection circuits or parts of such circuits intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres are IS circuits.

  • The simplest system comprises associated IS equipment located in a non-hazardous area, connected by a cable comprising two conductors to IS equipment located in a hazardous area.
