6. European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS)

The European Commission adopted the European EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) regulation in 1993. It came into force in the European Community in April 1995. The third version of EMAS dates from 2010. The standard has evolved to cover all activities, products and services that have a direct or indirect impact on the environment. The environmental impacts of a foundry are assessed, as are biodiversity and landscape integration. Nevertheless, EMAS differs from the ISO 14001 on aspects such as employee involvement, public reporting, environmental performance indicators and regulatory compliance.
