1. Definition and origins of the concept of ecoresponsibility

1.1 From greening to eco-responsibility

The concept of ecoresponsibility succeeded that of greening, adopted in 1995 at a G7 meeting in Canada. At the time, greening was conceived as a set of essentially technical actions aimed at controlling the impact of an organization's day-to-day operations on the environment.

Today, the principle of eco-responsibility is part of a more global approach to sustainable development issues. Indeed, given the growing sensitivity of public opinion, administrations, public establishments and companies must demonstrate responsibility in several areas: environmental, social, societal and economic.
