4. Giving value to biodiversity, a producer of ecosystem services
Studies carried out over the last 30 years have shown that biodiversity plays a fundamental role in the stabilization and productivity of ecosystems, which provide services that are essential to human life and development. The challenge of preserving these environments is no longer simply an environmental one, but now appears to be a prerequisite for the survival of the human species on Earth. This must lead to an economic and technical revolution, by internalizing the costs associated with damage to biological diversity and placing a value on natural resources.
