1. Overview of the grain storage business

1.1 Stored seeds

France produces around 70 Mt of cereals, oilseeds and protein crops, representing 1/5th of European production.

There are three main categories of seeds:

• cereals, such as wheat, barley and corn;

• oilseeds, such as rapeseed or sunflower, which are grains with a high oil content;

• protein crops, such as peas and beans, which are protein-rich grains.

Figure 1 shows the key data for each product.
