ingredient

Any substance or product, including flavors, food additives and food enzymes, or component of a compound ingredient, used in the manufacture or preparation of a foodstuff and still present in the finished product, possibly in a modified form; residues are not considered ingredients (EU regulation 2011/1169 of October 25, 2011).

food additive

Any substance not normally consumed as food in itself and not used as a characteristic ingredient in food, whether or not it has nutritional value, the intentional addition of which to foodstuffs, for a technological purpose, at the stage of their manufacture, processing, preparation, treatment, packaging, transport or storage has the effect, or may reasonably be estimated to have the effect, that it itself or its derivatives become, directly or indirectly, a component...
