5. Challenges facing the food industry

The agri-food industry is faced with the emergence of global, national and local changes that will have an impact on our eating habits in the years to come. All of these changes bring with them numerous, sometimes contradictory, challenges in terms of organizational, technological and human adaptations, and the distribution of value (Box 5). Without being exhaustive, we can highlight five that seem essential.

• Globalization: consolidating positions, exports and competitiveness

  The French food market is mature. Its size will change only marginally. On the other hand, international population growth will create new needs.
