4. STI stations

From a technical point of view, the reference entity for the new ITS-C technologies is the ITS station (ITS-S). The latter is a functional entity capable of running an application directly linked to the needs of the new ITS systems and/or communicating with another ITS-S. All ITS-S are divided into four categories (ETSI EN 302 665 ), depending on the function the ITS-S performs and the host to which it is attached: personal ITS-S, in a vehicle, at the roadside, or in a service center (figure 7 ).
