1. The role and importance of landscaping

The aesthetic value of landscaping is obvious in the urban environment. It's hard to imagine a high-quality architectural ensemble whose surrounding spaces would be poor and lacking in character. What's more, a city's landscaping and outdoor spaces contribute to its image, just as much as the quality of its architecture.

Urban organization is functionally affected by these developments, which can be designed to give priority to one link or another, or to encourage specific uses.

Social life can also benefit from landscaping, whose design and equipment can encourage encounters and exchanges, in the broadest sense, between users.

Climate and environment are modified by the presence of plants in the urban environment. Certain properties of plants are well known to us all: for example, they are the sole source of oxygen...
