3. ISO 14001 and environmental policy

The ISO 14001 standard lays down general rules for drawing up and implementing a company's environmental policy.

The sole purpose of these rules is to guide the company in building the environmental component of its governance strategy.

This component must therefore find its place in this global strategy, which often has to take into account other equally important dimensions, such as product and service quality, controlling risks to the health and safety of goods and people, and respecting the values and principles associated with corporate social responsibility (see ISO 26000 "Guidelines for corporate social responsibility" (November 2010)).
