 INTRODUCTION

When setting up an environmental management system (EMS), it is common practice - although not mandatory - to present the main elements of the management system's organization and operation in a document known as the "environmental manual". Where several management systems coexist, it is essential to describe their interactions in detail. In this case, it is essential to integrate the provisions of the various management systems into a single "manual".

The scope of application of the management system must be specified and documented, and this can be done within the framework of the environmental manual.

This article presents an example of a manual for a fictitious company. It explains the steps involved in setting it up in relation to the corresponding chapters of ISO 14001.
