5. Rate accident scenarios
In order to select the reference scenarios, it is necessary to assess the acceptability of each type of risk, quantified in terms of the probability of occurrence of the feared event and its severity. The criticality of a risk is the product of its frequency of occurrence (P) and the severity of its consequences (G). A third aspect to be taken into account is the kinetics of hazardous phenomena and accidents.
