3. Measurement and control of industrial pollution
Accurate knowledge of pollutant production is essential not only to assess inputs into the natural environment and determine the impact of pollution on the quality of the receiving environment, but also to ensure control and better management of pollution emitted within the plant and, above all, to design, dimensioning and better operation of treatment facilities that will enable the decontamination of industrial wastewater within the framework of the regulatory provisions laid down for discharge conditions.
To achieve these objectives, the measurement of discharge characteristics and the quantitative assessment of pollution necessarily require:
the collection of a representative sample of the wastewater in question;
