3. From scientific question to instrument

The previous paragraph highlighted the need for vertically resolved sampling of the atmosphere, in order to better anticipate the environmental and climatic impacts of aerosols. With the example presented for monitoring the diurnal cycle of CLA, lidar measurement appears to be a promising solution for meeting this need in an operational way. However, we still need to define which technology to use and how to implement it.
