1. Localized ambient protection by air flow
Air is a major vector of contamination. As it moves, it carries solid or liquid aerosols and/or particles. These may be deposited on surfaces or products, which may be altered as a result. The notion of protection against airborne particles varies according to the spatial extent of this protection: it can be global, i.e. extended to an entire volume on the scale of a room or cell, or localized, i.e. in a particular volume encompassing the product to be protected and open to a less controlled environment.
In the case of global protection, in a confined environment, the air is purified using high-efficiency filters (EPA, HEPA, ULPA)
