3. Possible strategies

There are different approaches to solving the problem of skills and knowledge obsolescence. The choice of strategy depends very much on the nature of the obsolescence risk, the organization's resources and objectives.

We can distinguish proactive strategies, based on planning, from reactive strategies.

3.1 Reactive strategies in the face of skills obsolescence

These strategies are often the consequence of a lack of anticipation, and are implemented as a reaction to an undesirable event for the organization, often when the problem is discovered too late. The two main strategies of this type are outsourcing and external growth.
