Legislative texts concerning the regulation of gaseous emissions and smoke are cited in the For further information. For classified installations, the main French decree is that of February 2, 1998, as amended. These regulations are based on European directives:

• Directive 1999/13/EC of the Council of the European Union of March 11, 1999 ;

• directive 2008/50/EC (CAFE directive for Clean Air For Europe) ;

• Directive 2016/2284 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 December 2016 on the reduction of national emissions of certain atmospheric pollutants ;
